Trump: Ceasefire with Iran has ended... and talks continue at their request - Sarmad

US President Donald Trump reaffirmed on Friday that the ceasefire with Iran has ended, while indicating that talks with Tehran are continuing.

Trump wrote on his “Truth Social” platform: “Iran asked us to continue talks, and we agreed, but the United States made it unequivocally clear to them that the ceasefire has ended.”

Wednesday and Thursday saw intense exchanges of fire between Washington and Tehran following Trump’s statement that the ceasefire “has ended,” raising doubts about the resilience of the memorandum of understanding between the two sides, which was supposed to pave the way for a complete end to the war.

However, earlier on Friday, a US official confirmed that talks between the United States and Iran regarding a permanent peace agreement are ongoing, despite the military escalation on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Bloomberg news agency, citing the official who wished to remain anonymous, “the United States remains committed to finding a diplomatic solution with Iran.”

The official described the ongoing discussions as “technical talks aimed at reaching a permanent peace agreement by approximately mid-August.”

The United States and Iran are seeking to resolve complex issues, most notably Tehran’s nuclear program, with the US aiming to impose a temporary freeze on uranium enrichment and the abandonment of its current stockpiles of near-ready uranium for making atomic bombs.
