The Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hin, reiterated Kuwait’s firm and principled stance regarding the pillars of regional security and stability, which he described as an authentic and inseparable guarantee of the human rights system and the inalienable right of peoples to live in a safe and stable environment.

Ambassador Al-Hin stated at the conclusion of the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva that the outcomes of this session, culminating in the Council’s adoption of a consensus-based resolution on a Kuwaiti initiative, reflected the deep shared international concern over destabilizing activities in the region.

He added that these activities were manifested in blatant aggressions, most recently those targeting vital and civilian facilities in the State of Kuwait and the sister Kingdom of Bahrain earlier today, Wednesday. He described this as a grave violation of established principles of international law and the UN Charter, necessitating immediate and firm international action to protect humanitarian and developmental gains.

He noted that while the State of Kuwait strongly condemns these repeated missile and drone attacks, it classifies these hostile acts as a serious infringement on national sovereignty and a deliberate undermining of regional security. He emphasized Kuwait’s full commitment to its inherent and legitimate right to take all sovereign measures necessary to protect the integrity of its territory and the security of its citizens, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter concerning the right to self-defense.

Furthermore, the State of Kuwait holds the international community, and the Security Council in particular, directly responsible for their political and legal obligations to enforce resolutions on international legitimacy and deter these systematic violations, in order to safeguard international peace and security.

In the same context, he pointed out that the targeting of oil tankers and commercial vessels in territorial waters, along with repeated threats to freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, represents a dangerous course of action that strikes at the economic lifeline of the region’s countries and directly threatens the integrity of global supply chains and trade flows.

Ambassador Al-Hin stated that his country affirms that any attempt to obstruct this vital international waterway extends its damage beyond the regional scope, with catastrophic humanitarian and economic repercussions that deprive societies worldwide of safe energy, food, and pharmaceutical supplies, constituting a collective violation of the international humanitarian system.

He noted that while the State of Kuwait is monitoring all diplomatic efforts and recent understandings aimed at de-escalation, it affirms that the test of credibility lies in genuine compliance and practical implementation on the ground.

He concluded by calling on the Iranian government to immediately and unconditionally cease its policies of threatening and encroaching upon neighboring states, and to fully terminate all military activities that undermine peace prospects, while fully and reliably adhering to international conventions and treaties governing freedom of maritime navigation. He stressed that establishing a sustainable and comprehensive peace in the region necessarily relies on concrete steps that respect state sovereignty, adhere to the principles of good neighborliness, and safeguard the rights of peoples.
