Haaretz: Netanyahu May Resume Gaza War to Serve His Electoral Ambitions - Sarmad

The newspaper Haaretz reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may resume military operations in the Gaza Strip, noting that this move could be part of his main objective of winning the legislative elections scheduled for October next year.

The newspaper added that President Donald Trump’s imposition of a ceasefire in Iran and Lebanon could pave the way for a return to fighting in Gaza, following months of de-escalation after an agreement enforced by Trump.

It pointed out that speculation has intensified in recent weeks regarding the possibility of a large-scale military operation in the Gaza Strip aimed at permanently eliminating Hamas, as pledged by the Israeli government in previous operations.

Haaretz observed that the announcement of the anticipated meeting between Trump and Netanyahu at the White House has not yet attracted widespread attention, and its date has not been officially set, although Israeli estimates suggest it will take place at the end of this month or the beginning of next month.

The newspaper added that Netanyahu needs to meet with the U.S. president before the election deadline.

It noted that relations between Trump and Netanyahu have deteriorated in recent times, to the extent that media outlets affiliated with Netanyahu on Channel 14 broadcasted sharp personal attacks against Trump.
