U.S. President Donald Trump said he offered Dana White, the chief executive of the mixed martial arts organization UFC, the position of White House press secretary.
He wrote on his Truth Social platform: “I am pleased to announce that the great Dana White, a fighter and fierce warrior, has been offered the position of Press Secretary,” adding, “Dana, please accept this position!” The post came after Katie Zakharia left the role on October 16, less than two weeks after her appointment.
Trump also asked White to bring UFC fighters to serve as “assistants.”
For his part, White posted a photo of himself on the podium in the White House press briefing room on Instagram, with the caption “Moving on to the next chapter.”
Later, White told reporters at a boxing event in London that he planned to meet with Trump at the White House on Monday, but he did not disclose whether he would accept the offer.
He added, “I’m on my way to Washington, D.C., and I’m sure we’ll find what we’re going to talk about next.”
When asked how he would balance this role with his current responsibilities, White replied, “Well, I already have a lot of jobs.”
CNN later reported that White had rejected the “unconventional” idea, citing a person familiar with the matter.
