The Ministry, in a statement following the participation of a delegation in the Gulf Electricity Conference and Exhibition “GulfGrid 2026,” hosted in the Omani capital Muscat, emphasized the importance of keeping pace with scientific and technological developments, exchanging expertise with specialized institutions and entities, and supporting scientific research and innovation in the energy sector.
It added that the participation comes within the framework of enhancing Kuwait’s presence at specialized technical and scientific forums, and supporting cooperation and knowledge exchange among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in the field of electricity.
The statement noted that the conference, which saw the participation of officials, experts, and specialists in the electricity and energy sectors from GCC countries and several other nations around the world, featured a Kuwaiti scientific paper titled “Enhancing the Resilience of Power Systems Using Interconnected Microgrids,” supervised by Engineer Ali Al-Muhanna.
The paper discussed the development of a smart system for managing energy in interconnected microgrids, relying on the integration of solar and wind energy, battery energy storage systems, and emergency generators. This aims to enhance the reliability of electricity supply and ensure its continuity during emergencies and main grid disruptions.
It further stated that the paper presented a mechanism for energy exchange between microgrids according to specific operational priorities, contributing to maximizing the utilization of renewable energy sources, reducing reliance on backup fuel generators, and protecting energy storage systems.
In this context, the Ministry pointed out the participation of several Kuwaiti engineers and technicians in the conference proceedings, including Asma Al-Salal, Mohammed Al-Mari, and Athir Al-Anzi, who contributed by managing specialized scientific sessions and evaluating scientific and research papers.
It affirmed that this participation reflects the technical and engineering expertise of national cadres and their role in enriching scientific discussions and exchanging knowledge and expertise with specialists and researchers in the electricity sector at both the GCC and international levels.
The “GulfGrid 2026” Conference and Exhibition kicked off last Monday and lasted for three days, during which participants discussed the latest trends, technologies, and innovative solutions in the electricity and energy sectors, as well as ways to enhance grid readiness to accommodate renewable energy sources and achieve a balance between electricity supply security and environmental sustainability.
The conference saw the participation of officials, decision-makers, experts, researchers, specialists, and representatives of institutions working in the electricity and energy sectors from GCC countries and around the world, with more than 40 speakers from 15 countries and the participation of more than 10 companies in the accompanying exhibition.
Held in its 22nd edition, the conference was organized by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) in collaboration with the Omani Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and supervised by the International Council on Large Electric Systems for the GCC Countries (“GulfGrid”), coinciding with the 32nd edition of the accompanying electrical equipment exhibition.
The Council focuses on enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in electrical power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution, and comprises thousands of specialists from more than 90 countries.
