The Economist reported on Thursday that British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Russian President Vladimir Putin would not be invited to attend the Group of Twenty (G20) summit scheduled to be held in Britain next year.
When asked by the newspaper whether Putin would be invited to the summit, Burnham replied, “No.”
Burnham’s office has not yet responded to a request for comment.
In September, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington had invited Putin to attend the G20 meeting in Miami in December, noting that this would give him the opportunity to engage with U.S. President Donald Trump and other world leaders.
The annual G20 summit will be held next November in Manchester, located in the heart of North West England, where Burnham previously served as mayor.
