Fahad Al-Ajmi, president of the Winter Sports Club, stated that the club is currently working to involve athletes with disabilities in snow and ice sports competitions to represent Kuwait in external events dedicated to para-sports.
Al-Ajmi added in a media statement that the club will initiate this effort by engaging Kuwaiti youth with disabilities through the formation of a Kuwaiti ice hockey team, while others from this group will continue to participate in other winter sports overseen by the club, including ice skating, curling, and speed skating.
He clarified that the club has already begun holding intensive meetings with several schools that include students from this valued group to identify players interested in practicing the sport and to train them in its fundamentals and techniques, calling on all interested individuals to contact the club’s management.
He noted that the club aims, in the first phase, to prepare 20 ice hockey players to compete in the 9th Asian Winter Games, to be hosted in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in winter 2029, with their participation in subsequent events to follow sequentially.
Al-Ajmi explained that the club will hire a specialized technical staff to train the athletes in the club’s ice arena in the Bayan area, and will provide the players with the necessary equipment for the sport, hoping that a number of Kuwaiti youth with disabilities will join this initiative and benefit from the available facilities to practice winter sports.
He emphasized the club’s commitment to launching this initiative to provide opportunities for youth with disabilities, to utilize their free time in sports, and to showcase their abilities, considering it the club’s duty to support Kuwaiti youth in pursuing winter sports.
