Others’ reactions to our actions and stances constitute an important source of self-awareness, as they illuminate aspects of our social affinity and alienation, and what is inappropriate and unacceptable. In other words, sound self-awareness enables individuals to enhance their moral, skill-based, and social selves. Moreover, we can renew ourselves by improving our relationship with God Almighty, by acquiring greater intellectual and psychological refinement, and by adopting more appropriate behavior. The aim of enhancing our self-awareness is to avoid succumbing to the initial conditions that reality presents in any field.
Openness to reality and engagement with it is the primary source for the renewal, maturation, and development of consciousness. This development entails striving to transform a reality that does not align with our maturity across intellectual, political, social, and economic dimensions. We acknowledge that change is the law of life, and that humans are like rivers, requiring constant flow in order to adapt to new circumstances and conditions, thereby transforming the conditions of life, its tools, and its requirements.
As humans advance in their tools and mechanisms, they feel themselves moving toward their desired goals. This invariably leads to transitioning from one stage and condition to a more prosperous and refined one. Such transitions involve processes of development, renewal, and adaptation.
Progress, development, adaptation, and other key expressions of advancement and reform help individuals change their livelihood strategies. As consciousness expands its influence over the course, stability, and regularity of life, it prevents surrender to a rigid reality that causes humans to shrink, marginalize themselves, lose their efficacy, and experience a troubled existence, ultimately leading to extinction—much like plants and animals—because they failed to seize the opportunity available in this world of action to pursue change, development, advancement, and reform.
