Crowds of citizens and residents offered the prayer for rain (Istisqa) at 125 mosques across various governorates of Kuwait on Saturday morning, in observance of the noble Prophetic tradition and following the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in supplicating to Allah for rain and precipitation. The atmosphere was imbued with faith, humility, and prayers for Allah to bestow rain, mercy, and blessings upon the country and its people.
The designated mosques witnessed a large turnout of worshippers, who keenly participated in this ritual in response to the call issued by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, seeking Allah’s mercy and praying that He grant the land a rain of mercy rather than punishment, and that He make the rainfall a source of goodness and blessing for all.
The prayer was held in implementation of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs’ directive, which addressed imams and preachers to conduct the Istisqa prayer. This followed an administrative circular issued by the Deputy Minister for Affairs, Dr. Engineer Sulaiman Al-Suwailim, which designated 125 mosques across the country’s governorates to host the prayer at 10:30 a.m.
The Ministry ensured that the designated mosques were distributed across various residential areas, enabling the largest possible number of citizens and residents to participate without the hardship of traveling to distant locations. This measure aimed to facilitate the performance of this ritual and make it accessible across all governorates.
The Istisqa prayer is one of the Prophetic traditions in which Muslims turn to Allah when rainfall is delayed, seeking sustenance and mercy, and reminding themselves of the importance of repentance, seeking forgiveness, and increasing supplication and humble entreaty to Allah.
The widespread participation in the prayer reflected the worshippers’ commitment to reviving this blessed tradition, approaching Allah with humble hearts and hopeful souls, beseeching the Almighty to relieve the country and its people, send down the blessings of the heavens, and make the rains a source of goodness and mercy encompassing all of Kuwait.
