The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced on Friday that the drilling of the Lorkan-6 exploratory well in the North Gulf of Suez area of the Eastern Desert successfully achieved a production rate of 1,500 barrels of crude oil and 8 million cubic feet of associated gas per day.
The ministry stated in a press release that the well was drilled by Petrovietnam, a subsidiary of the Egyptian South Valley Holding Company for Petroleum, and yielded positive results during testing as part of efforts to intensify exploration activities and boost domestic oil and gas production.
It was clarified that the Lorkan-6 well is scheduled to be connected to production following the completion of testing programs and necessary technical procedures. Meanwhile, data updating, geological mapping, and analysis of test results will continue to identify opportunities for drilling new wells and maximize the exploitation of the region’s petroleum potential.
The statement emphasized that these efforts align with plans to expand drilling operations and capitalize on promising opportunities in concession areas, in collaboration with investment partners and in coordination with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and the Egyptian South Valley Holding Company for Petroleum, thereby contributing to supporting and increasing domestic production.
