The Central News Agency reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for his country to achieve “absolute superiority” in drone technology, during his visit to an unmanned aviation technology exhibition and weapons display.
The South Korean military said on Thursday that the northern neighbor had launched approximately 10 projectiles, including short-range ballistic missiles.
According to the Central News Agency, Kim stated that pursuing superiority in drone technology was “an indispensable option” given the evolving nature of modern warfare.
The agency also quoted him as saying that the use of advanced artificial intelligence in unmanned weapon systems must be a top priority for North Korea in building a modern military.
According to state media, Kim ordered mass production of suicide drones in November 2024 and oversaw tests of AI-equipped prototypes in March 2025.
