The seventh round of the Zain League Premier football competition kicks off on Saturday with two matches: the first sees Al-Tadamun host Al-Sahel, while the second features Al-Sulaibikhat welcoming Al-Salmiya.
The round continues on Sunday with a “derby” clash between the two major rivals Qadsia and Al-Arabi, and another match between Al-Jahra and Fehail. A single match will be played on Monday between Al-Nasr and Al-Shabab. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-table encounter between Kuwait and Kazma has been postponed to December 18 due to Kuwait’s commitment to a match against Uzbek club Nasaf in the AFC Champions League Two, scheduled for Wednesday.
Before the start of the seventh round, Kuwait leads the standings with 16 points, ahead of Kazma (14) and Qadsia (12), and Al-Nasr (12). Fehail sits fifth with 9 points, followed by Al-Shabab (7), Al-Arabi (6), Al-Jahra (4), Al-Sahel (4), Al-Sulaibikhat (3), and finally Al-Tadamun, who remain winless.
Returning to Saturday’s fixtures, Al-Salmiya aims to continue their resurgence and secure a second consecutive victory after beating Al-Jahra in the previous round.
Al-Samaq (Al-Salmiya) has yet to face any of the traditional title contenders—Kuwait, Qadsia, Al-Arabi, and Kazma—so far, and thus their priority is to collect the three points and move up the table.
Al-Sulaibikhat, meanwhile, hopes to break out of the losing streak that has engulfed them in the last two rounds, following a promising start to their return to the Premier League with three draws, most notably a 3-3 draw with Al-Arabi.
The team is credited with regaining some balance in their last match, narrowly losing 2-1 to Kazma after having suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat to Kuwait just days earlier.
In the other match, Al-Tadamun looks to turn the page under their new coach Adel Marzouq, who recently took over from Bosnian coach Igor Remić, who was dismissed after failing to secure any points during his tenure. The management of “Al-Farwaniya’s Blues” hopes that appointing Marzouq, who has always been close to the team as part of the technical staff, will have a positive psychological and moral impact on the players starting from tomorrow’s match.
For his part, Al-Sahel has lost their last three matches in the competition, and their national coach Ali Abdul-Razzaq must find a solution to their attacking woes. The team has scored only one goal in five matches while conceding eight, seven of which came in the last two games.
Qadsia, meanwhile, continued their winning run in the competition, moving up to third place after defeating host Al-Shabab 4-0 in Ahmadi on Wednesday, concluding the sixth round.
Moroccan striker Hamza Khaba led Qadsia to an easy victory, scoring a hat-trick in the 16th and 40th minutes (the latter from a penalty) and the 57th minute, before his compatriot Ayoub Al-Khadhir added a fourth goal in the 71st minute.
