The Director of the Meteorology Department, Deputy Director Derrar Al-Ali, stated that the country was affected early Thursday morning by thunderstorms, with chances continuing until Friday morning, accompanied by windy conditions. Horizontal visibility is expected to gradually improve in some areas from the afternoon of Thursday onward.
Al-Ali told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that since Wednesday night, the country has been under the influence of a surface low-pressure system, coinciding with a low-pressure system in the upper atmospheric layers. This led to the proliferation of low and mid-level clouds, interspersed with cumulonimbus clouds, resulting in thunderstorms and windy conditions.
He explained that dust carried by downdrafts from cumulonimbus clouds that formed near the northern border early Thursday was the cause of reduced horizontal visibility, noting that visibility will gradually improve from Thursday afternoon, while thunderstorm chances will persist into the early hours of Friday morning.
He urged drivers on highways to exercise caution due to reduced horizontal visibility on some highways and advised sea travelers to be careful because of high waves caused by winds accompanying the thunderstorms.
Al-Ali also called on asthma and allergy patients to wear masks when going out due to airborne dust, especially during thunderstorms and the high humidity typical of this season.
