Muscat – KUNA – A Kuwaiti medical project that utilizes artificial intelligence for dental restoration has been ranked among the top seven Arab innovations, following the conclusion of the Arab Innovators and Creators Conference in the Omani capital, Muscat.
Dr. Kawthar Ali, an assistant professor at the College of Dentistry, Kuwait University, and supervisor of the project, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that her project, which placed sixth in the “Let’s Invent” competition for invention structures and innovations during the conference, is an application that uses artificial intelligence to determine a tooth’s suitability for restoration.
She added that the application is built on research foundations and evidence derived from clinical data and X-rays of patients whose outcomes were monitored to train the algorithm. She noted that the experimental application achieved high accuracy, reaching 90 percent, following an internal validation study.
She pointed out that the project had previously won local awards in Kuwait for digital solutions, including the “Nexus” startup competition and a contest organized by the College of Life Sciences for participants in the Fourth Kuwait International Conference for Life Sciences.
Dr. Ali expressed hope that her innovation would win global awards in the future and be implemented across all countries, starting with Arab Gulf states. She emphasized its potential to improve diagnostic accuracy, accelerate treatments, and streamline workflows in clinics, laboratories, and entities associated with the medical sector.
She further noted that she participated in other conference activities hosted by the Arab Open University in the Omani capital, including discussion panels aimed at promoting the application and addressing challenges facing innovation.
She expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Research Authority in Oman for hosting the scientific event and providing a platform for Arab innovators and creators to meet, exchange ideas, and share expertise.
A delegation from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and Kuwait University had participated in the Arab Innovators and Creators Conference to discuss mechanisms for supporting the transition from concept to product, enhancing the innovation and patent environment, and building sustainable Arab collaboration networks.
