Under the patronage and presence of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the first French Week in the country will open on Wednesday at The Avenues Mall in the capital, under the theme “France in Kuwait.” The event marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Kuwait and the French Republic. It will be attended by French Ambassador Olivier Goffen, a number of ministers and sheikhs, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of French companies, officials, and public figures, and will conclude on Friday.
The launch of this prominent economic and cultural event follows the official visit made by French President Emmanuel Macron to the country on the 19th of the current month, during which he was received by His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The visit constituted a major milestone crowning 65 years of established diplomatic and bilateral relations. It witnessed the signing of numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding in the fields of economy, defense, and scientific research, as well as enhanced educational and cultural cooperation and exchange of expertise, reflecting the growing momentum and deep strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Week will see extensive participation from leading French companies operating in Kuwait, covering multiple sectors aimed at showcasing French expertise and advantages in culture, education, culinary arts, automobiles, high-tech industries, and corporate development, featuring well-known global brands.
In this context, Ahmed Ismail Baha’ani, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed for the event embodies the depth and history of Kuwaiti-French relations, and His Highness’s consistent commitment to supporting activities that strengthen the historical ties between the two friendly countries. He noted that today’s celebration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations reflects a long history of friendship, cooperation, and exchange between the peoples of the two friendly nations.
Baha’ani stated, “Kuwaiti-French relations represent a unique model of ties built on a solid foundation of friendship and comprehensive cooperation, witnessing significant milestones and continuous development across various political, economic, military, cultural, and educational fields.”
He pointed out that the visit of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait to France in July 2025 – which was his first official visit since assuming office – followed by President Macron’s recent visit to Kuwait, deeply demonstrated the strength of this partnership and reflected the shared will of the leaderships of both countries to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
Baha’ani clarified that the French Week is one of the most important economic and cultural activities and a key milestone in consolidating relations at all levels. He noted that its timing coincides with national occasions, giving it special significance and opening new horizons for institutions and companies in both countries.
Baha’ani concluded by emphasizing the honorable historical positions of the French Republic and its steadfast support for the sovereignty, security, and stability of the State of Kuwait, ensuring that the relationship between the two countries remains a model to be emulated in mutual respect and cooperation.
