Jordan said on Tuesday that airstrikes it launched on southern Syria on Monday evening resulted in “significant losses for the Daesh (ISIS) group,” estimated at more than 20 fighters, and the destruction of a large weapons depot belonging to the group.

Al-Momani reaffirmed Jordan’s pride in the “brotherly relations linking the Kingdom with the Syrian Arab Republic,” emphasizing its commitment to developing these ties in a manner that serves the interests of both brotherly countries and ensures coordination in confronting all shared challenges, including the Daesh group, which poses a common threat to both nations.

He also underscored Jordan’s “great respect for the Syrian state and its brotherly people,” noting that coordination between Jordan and Syria in combating terrorism, arms smuggling, and drug trafficking is institutional and ongoing, having been in place for years. This cooperation stems from a firm conviction in consolidating the security of both brotherly countries and reflects their joint efforts to entrench security and stability.

The official spokesperson stressed that “the airstrikes conducted by the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army – yesterday targeted Daesh positions, after Jordan’s patience ran out regarding the movements of these terrorist groups and their targeting of national security.” He explained that “the operations were carried out based on field intelligence to neutralize confirmed threats and terrorist operations against Jordan,” adding that “initial results of these operations indicate, so far, significant losses within Daesh ranks, estimated at more than 20 fighters, and the destruction of a large weapons depot belonging to the group.”

The spokesperson expressed regret over the occurrence of civilian casualties, stating that “Jordan refrained from targeting sites where intelligence indicated the presence of civilians,” and affirmed that “relevant Jordanian authorities are following up on this matter with their Syrian counterparts.”

Al-Momani emphasized that “Jordan always takes all precautions to avoid harming civilians, as it values the lives of innocent civilians outside its borders equally to those of Jordanians, based on its belief that human life and dignity are indivisible values, regardless of nationality or location.”

Al-Momani clarified that “work will be undertaken with our brothers to establish a joint committee to monitor the repercussions of the operation against Daesh and to develop coordination in combating the terrorist group, thereby ensuring the security of both brotherly countries and peoples and protecting civilians.”

He affirmed that “the security of Jordan and Syria is one, and that combating terrorism, which targeted Jordan in the village of Hamoud in Karak a few days ago, is a shared goal for both countries, which will continue to work on strengthening their entrenched brotherly relations.”

He stressed that “no one can doubt Jordan’s commitment to Syria; we have hosted Syrians, stood by their side, and provided them with continuous support. The Kingdom seeks to stand alongside sisterly Syria, support its security, strengthen its unity and internal front, and enhance its presence at all levels. Furthermore, Jordan coordinates with international parties to ensure the integrity of Syrian territory, guarantee its unity and stability, and repel ambitions against it, particularly in southern Syria.”
