Rome – AFP – Lazio aim to temporarily snatch the top spot in the Italian football league from champions Inter Milan when they visit Sassuolo on Tuesday, in the opening match of Matchday 9.
Lazio, who beat Parma 2-1 last Saturday, sit second with 22 points, trailing Inter on goal difference. Inter regained the top spot after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over visiting Fiorentina, overtaking the capital club.
In two other matches, third-placed Roma (18 points) face Cagliari, while fifth-placed Torino (17 points) host Como.
Milan regained their footing with a 2-0 win over hosts Udinese, with goals from American Christian Pulisic (6th minute) and Englishman Omari Hutchinson (65th minute), concluding Matchday 8.
The victory came after a heavy defeat for the Lombard side in the Europa League, where they lost 3-0 to English hosts Bournemouth last Thursday.
Meanwhile, Juventus bounced back with a 2-0 win over hosts Lecce, thanks to goals from American Weston McKennie (29th minute) and Brazilian Douglas Luiz (41st minute), following their 3-0 loss to Lazio in the previous round and a 2-2 draw with French side Rennes in the Europa League.
