The Ukrainian military announced on Friday that it would observe a ceasefire in the town of Oleshky, located in the Russian-occupied Kherson region, starting on Tuesday, in order to ensure the implementation of a humanitarian operation there.
In a statement, the Ukrainian General Staff said, “In order to carry out a humanitarian operation in the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region, Ukraine is establishing a ceasefire in a designated area, effective from 3 a.m. Kyiv time on October 27.”
The Ukrainian military’s statement came hours after Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov announced that his forces would also observe a ceasefire in Kherson starting at that time.
Neither the Russian nor the Ukrainian statement specified how long the ceasefire would last or the exact areas it would cover.
