Berlin – AFP – The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party announced that it was the target of a cyberattack that resulted in the leak of hundreds of thousands of private emails belonging to its members.

The anti-immigration, Russia-friendly party, which has led opinion polls since the beginning of the year, told AFP that its service provider was hit “in September 2026 by a cyberattack during which some emails from accounts that had not been used for years were illegally copied.”

The Bild newspaper had previously reported the attack, estimating the number of leaked messages at more than 421,000.

One website published what it described as summaries of some of those emails, without disclosing their original content.

Alternative for Germany stated that an investigation into these publications is “currently underway.”

Although the party confirmed that the leaks did not affect officials at the central level, Bild reported that they included emails sent by the party’s co-leader Alice Weidel, as well as an image of the ID card of one of the party’s deputies in the Bundestag, the lower house of the German federal parliament.
