Two European Union officials stressed in Brussels on Friday that “the time is not right” to halt support for Kyiv and lift sanctions on Moscow, a stance that bolsters Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy amid rising tensions between him and Washington.
European Council President Antonio Costa told the media, alongside Zelenskyy, upon their arrival at the EU leaders’ summit in Brussels: “This is not the time to withdraw support for Ukraine. This is not the time to ease sanctions on Russia. This is the time to increase our support and increase our pressure.” He added, “You can count on us.” Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated, “It is very clear that we will not lift any sanctions as long as Russia does not stop the war.”
