Spanish football club Real Madrid has reached an agreement with Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to extend his contract, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano stated on his account on Monday that Courtois has agreed to extend his contract, which will run until the end of the current season, with the signing to take place shortly.
He added that the new contract will be for one season, meaning the Belgian will continue to guard the club’s goal until the summer of 2028.
Courtois, 34, began his career with Real Madrid in 2018 when he joined from English club Chelsea. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in the team’s trophy wins, featuring in 342 matches across all competitions.
Real Madrid’s management recently finalized the contract extensions of several players, most notably Brazilian Vinicius Jr. at the start of the season following lengthy negotiations.
Previous reports indicated that the club had reached a final agreement with French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and Turkish forward Arda Guler, and had also successfully completed a round of negotiations with English midfielder Jude Bellingham.
