The General Fire Force has called for strict adherence to safety and security guidelines within homes, warning against the dangers of unsafe use of electronic devices, improper handling of gas leaks, and neglecting child supervision. It emphasized that preventive awareness and compliance with instructions contribute to protecting lives and property and reducing household accidents.

Mohammed Al-Gharib, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the General Fire Force, told “Al-Rai” that “enhancing a preventive culture among citizens and residents is crucial, requiring serious attention to potential risk sources and not underestimating simple measures that could prevent accidents threatening family safety.”

Al-Gharib clarified that “the safe use of electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, requires avoiding leaving them plugged into power sources for extended periods or during sleep, and refraining from placing them on beds or flammable surfaces to prevent battery overheating and potential fire hazards.”

Regarding gas leaks in kitchens, he stressed the “necessity of avoiding switching electrical lights on or off when a leak is suspected, staying away from any source of sparks or flames, safely shutting off the gas supply if possible, evacuating the premises, and contacting emergency services from a safe location, without endangering oneself while dealing with the situation.”

He also emphasized “the importance of continuously monitoring children and not leaving them unsupervised, especially near swimming pools, elevators, and other areas posing safety risks, alongside keeping hazardous materials, tools, heat sources, and electrical outlets out of their reach.”

Al-Gharib noted that adhering to safety guidelines is a shared responsibility requiring community cooperation and diligence in implementing preventive measures in daily life, adding that prior preparedness and knowing the correct response during accidents help minimize losses and prevent the escalation of emergencies.

He concluded by reiterating the necessity of calling the emergency number 112 immediately following any incident or situation requiring the intervention of fire and rescue teams, while complying with instructions from relevant authorities to ensure everyone’s safety.
