The National Cyber Security Center announced the launch of “Sur,” the 2026 National Cyber Security Awareness Campaign, a joint initiative bringing together the National Cyber Security Center, Kuwait Finance House (KFH), and Code Academy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
“Sur” is built on two integrated pillars: an awareness tour reaching 12 government schools (two schools in each governorate), and a “mediathon” for creating awareness content targeting 150 Kuwaiti youth aged 15 to 25. The campaign’s name and identity are inspired by Kuwait’s historic wall, a symbol of protection, resilience, and social responsibility. Just as the wall once protected the city and its people, the campaign now represents a modern line of defense against the risks of the digital world, based on the premise that cyber awareness is everyone’s first line of defense.
The first pillar targets high school students during October and November, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, which coordinates the school tour with participating schools. It features interactive sessions addressing the risks they face in their daily lives, ranging from social engineering and digital fraud to digital footprints and the inferences that can be drawn from public images and posts. This pillar aims to empower students to identify threats and make informed decisions when encountering them, while equipping them with practical measures they can implement immediately to protect their accounts and personal data.
The second pillar, “Sur Medathon,” shifts young people from being passive recipients of awareness campaigns to active creators. Participants learn how to transform a cyber security topic into a clear awareness message, then leverage artificial intelligence and content creation tools to produce a short awareness video. The goal is to generate innovative and credible awareness content that speaks to youth in their own language, forming a reusable content library under the umbrella of the National Cyber Security Center.
The launch of “Sur” comes at a time when cyber risks have become part of everyday life for every user, no longer just a technical threat confined to institutions. Social engineering and digital fraud target humans as much as systems, with the most vulnerable groups being the most active in the digital space. From this perspective, the campaign seeks to establish a scalable and replicable national model for awareness.
Regarding the campaign, Mariam Al-Anzi, Director of the General Administration of Supporting Educational Services at the Ministry of Education, stated that “the National Cyber Security Initiative reflects our shared commitment to protecting our students in the digital space and enhancing their awareness of the risks of electronic fraud and the means to safeguard their data and privacy. The impact of the initiative extends beyond knowledge acquisition to fostering responsible digital behavior and promoting a culture of cyber security among students and their families.”
Al-Anzi added, “The Ministry of Education believes that investing in our children’s awareness and skills is an investment in Kuwait’s security and future. We extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the National Cyber Security Center, Kuwait Finance House, and Code Academy for their fruitful cooperation, which underscores the importance of integrated efforts to protect future generations.”
