Trump Announces Russian-Ukrainian Energy Truce

Washington, Kyiv – AFP, Reuters – US President Donald Trump confirmed that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to refrain from targeting energy facilities, a day after he criticized Kyiv’s strikes on Moscow-owned oil installations.
Trump stated in a post on his platform, Truth Social, on Sunday evening, “Ukraine has agreed not to bomb Russian energy targets, and Russia has agreed to do the same.”
He added, “Effective immediately, a ceasefire on energy in the war between Russia and Ukraine is in effect; the two sides have agreed to this. Do not violate this ceasefire!”
President Volodymyr Zelensky immediately responded that he was unaware of Trump’s announcement regarding an energy ceasefire but said he was prepared to accept it if the Russians agreed, according to Axios.
Earlier, Zelensky announced his country’s readiness to halt its attacks on Russian oil refineries, provided that Moscow stops its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He emphasized that any steps aimed at de-escalating the conflict between the two countries must be based on the principle of reciprocity and accompanied by real guarantees ensuring compliance.
In a message posted via the Telegram app, Zelensky said Ukraine was ready to take steps to reduce escalation if Russia showed similar willingness to stop targeting Ukrainian energy facilities, amid ongoing military confrontations between the two sides and their impact on critical infrastructure.
On Saturday, Trump criticized Zelensky for launching attacks on Russian oil refineries, one day after the United States temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian fuel, following an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to introduce diesel fuel into the US and global markets.
