Sky News – German police announced an expansion of the search for a potentially predatory cat or its tracks in the Erding district of Bavaria, southern Germany, noting the deployment of a mounted police unit.

The police clarified that the mounted unit is being used in the Notsinger Moos area and its surroundings, after a hunter captured footage late Tuesday evening of a suspicious cat using night-vision equipment.

Authorities suspect the animal may be a puma, also known as a mountain lion.

A police spokesperson said the mounted unit can move differently within the nature reserve, reaching areas inaccessible on foot or by vehicle.

He added that authorities are still verifying the species of the animal sighted in the area.

He noted that no other tracks have been found so far, no new sightings have been recorded, and reports from residents have yielded no concrete information.

Since the animal was first spotted, search efforts for it and its tracks have involved ground police officers, drones, helicopters, and police dogs. New wildlife-monitoring cameras have also been installed, but all these efforts have so far yielded no results.
