Trump announces agreement between Russia and Ukraine to halt attacks on energy facilities

US President Donald Trump announced in a brief post on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to halt reciprocal strikes targeting each other’s energy facilities and infrastructure.

Writing on his platform Truth Social, Trump stated, “Effective immediately, there is a ceasefire on the energy front in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides have agreed to this. Do not violate it,” without providing further details.

Neither Kyiv nor Moscow issued an immediate reaction to the announcement, which followed remarks Trump made on Saturday criticizing Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries and urging Ukrainians to elect a new president.

On Friday, the US president had announced an agreement with Moscow to purchase large quantities of Russian diesel, alongside easing US sanctions imposed on Russia.
