Bahrain strongly condemns ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and the assault on King Khalid Airport

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the ongoing, heinous terrorist attacks launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia against the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. It noted that the recurrence of these attacks today constitutes a serious escalation and an extension of the heinous aggression that targeted the same airport two days prior.
The Ministry also affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its complete and absolute support for all sovereign measures and legitimate steps taken by Riyadh to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability, as well as to protect its citizens and residents on its territory. It underscored Saudi Arabia’s inherent right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and in line with the obligations of member states under the Joint Defense Agreement of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). This reaffirmed that the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are an integral part of the security of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the GCC member states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s call upon the UN Security Council, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the international community to fully assume their responsibilities and take firm, deterrent measures to halt the repeated Houthi terrorist attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including facilities and airports. It called for holding perpetrators and their backers accountable, and ensuring the full implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolutions 2216 and 2817, thereby safeguarding regional and international peace and security.
