Sulaiman Al-Asaker, Chief Executive Officer of the Properties Management Department, stated that United Properties views the Fish Market as a national project playing a vital role in supporting the food security system, a mission the company is keen to enhance by improving market efficiency, upgrading the sales and shopping environment, and providing more organized and higher-quality facilities and services for vendors and consumers.
Al-Asaker added that the relocation is being carried out in close coordination with government entities and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth procedures and compliance with all regulatory and operational requirements. He extended his sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, the General Fire Directorate, the Kuwait Municipality, and all participating entities for their continuous cooperation and support in ensuring the success of this phase.
As part of the development plan, the number of fish, fruit, vegetable, and other food stalls will increase from 214 to 240, enabling the accommodation of more vendors and enhancing product diversity. Applications for stall operators will be accepted shortly.
The mechanism for transporting fish from the sea to the hall will be organized through an operational route, ensuring their smooth and efficient arrival at the sales area while preserving their quality during transit.
The Fish Market development works will include a number of engineering and service improvements, such as designating an independent area for fish cleaning to maintain the hygiene of sales zones, upgrading ventilation and drainage systems, and organizing the display of local and imported fish. The project will also include the addition of restaurants serving freshly cooked fish.
United Properties emphasized that the project’s planning and design are based on a vision that preserves the Fish Market’s identity and historical status, enhances its authenticity, and aligns with future needs to serve the community. Al-Asaker stated that, once developed, the Fish Market will rank among the distinguished fish markets in the Gulf and the region.
Regarding the waterfront plan (Phase III) – East Market, Al-Asaker said that United Properties’ vision for developing the East Project focuses on highlighting the unique value of each component in this distinguished space, with the Fish Market taking precedence due to its economic and social role and the marine resources it provides, which form an important part of the Kuwaiti table.
