US announces sanctions on International Criminal Court

The United States imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court on Friday, vowing to cripple its activities hours after the Nobel Committee awarded the Peace Prize to the court’s former judge, Navi Pillay.
Washington justified the sanctions by citing its desire “to defend American sovereignty and its citizens against the threat posed by the International Criminal Court,” according to a statement released by the State Department. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said, “Either the International Criminal Court will end its threats, or we will end the court.”
