Mamdani Demands Trump Withdraw ICE and CBP Personnel from New York

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on Thursday that he would ask President Donald Trump to withdraw Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from the city, a day after a shooting incident linked to the federal agency.

New York Police Department officials reported that a man was shot around 4 p.m. in Marble Hill, in the Bronx, during an altercation with federal agents.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said the agents were attempting to “arrest an undocumented immigrant from the Dominican Republic with a prior conviction for theft and a history of offenses including assault, robbery, drug possession, and weapons possession.”

The spokesperson added, “ICE agents immediately administered first aid. The individual is still alive and is receiving treatment at a hospital.”

The department had initially stated that the targeted individual had ties to a Dominican gang, but later issued a revised statement that omitted this reference.

Mamdani added that a five-year-old child was inside the vehicle when the incident occurred, stating, “This is an extremely serious and unacceptable situation.”

He continued, “When I speak with him, I will ask (Trump) to end all ICE immigration enforcement operations in our city. I will not stand idly by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.”

Trump had previously criticized Mamdani sharply before he took office in January, but their relationship has since seen an unexpected rapprochement.
