Borussia Dortmund look to maintain their perfect start when they host Werder Bremen tomorrow, Friday, in the opening match of the fifth round of the German football Bundesliga, before Bayern Munich travel to Augsburg on Saturday for the Bavarian derby.
Dortmund top the table with 12 points, two clear of their traditional rivals Bayern Munich, while Augsburg sit fourth on seven points, the same tally held by a group of clubs including Werder Bremen.
Dortmund are seeking a seventh consecutive victory across all competitions. Their strong start is not limited to results but extends to defensive solidity, having conceded just twice in their last six matches and only once in their first four league games.
Croatian coach Niko Kovač hopes his side can preserve this ideal beginning, especially since any slip-up could hand Bayern the chance to seize top spot. However, they face Werder Bremen, who have demonstrated greater stability and competitiveness in the early weeks of the season compared to last year, currently sitting eighth after three wins and just one defeat in their first five matches.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich face a crucial test against hosts Augsburg, against whom they boast an exceptional record, having lost only once in their last 47 league meetings.
French winger Michael Olise stands out as one of the key components of Bayern’s attacking strength, having scored his first Bundesliga hat-trick against Union Berlin, raising his tally to four goals in the competition this season.
English striker Harry Kane will also be in the spotlight after reaching 101 Bundesliga goals in the victory over Union Berlin, becoming the fastest player in the competition’s history to reach the 100-goal milestone.
