Teenager in Turkey Kills and Injures 8 Students

Istanbul – AFP – A teenage girl attacked classmates with a knife inside a school in Istanbul today, killing one student and injuring seven others, according to Turkish Education Minister Yusuf Tekin.

Police arrested the attacker, a 15-year-old tenth-grade student who studies at a different school.

The Turkish Ministry of Interior posted on the X platform: “One of the students, Islam Sarıpolat, who was receiving treatment, died despite all efforts. The other seven injured students remain in the hospital.”

It added, “Five of the students sustained minor injuries and are expected to be discharged from the hospital later. Two are in critical condition, with one currently undergoing surgery.”

It continued, “The student who carried out the attack lives in the same neighborhood and attends a different school. She entered the building wearing a school uniform and stabbed the victims indiscriminately.”

Meanwhile, last month, a boy opened fire outside a school in western Turkey, injuring 11 students, three of them seriously, before being apprehended.

Also, in April, two consecutive shooting attacks carried out by teenagers on two successive days in southern Turkey shocked the country and raised public concerns about safety in Turkish schools.
