Kuwait stresses enhancing Gulf integration and securing oil supply chains

Oil Minister Tariq Al-Roumi affirmed on Monday that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are proceeding to enhance their cooperation and integrate their capabilities in the energy sector, thereby supporting supply security, boosting readiness to address regional and international developments, and consolidating their pivotal and reliable role in global energy markets.

The Ministry of Oil stated in a press release that this remark was made by Minister Al-Roumi while presiding over the Kuwaiti delegation at the 37th meeting of the Petroleum Cooperation Committee of the GCC, attended by the oil and energy ministers of the member states.

Al-Roumi stressed that the geopolitical developments and tensions witnessed in the region underscore the growing importance of strengthening energy security and supply sustainability, reaffirming the necessity of continuously enhancing the readiness and resilience of the Gulf energy system to handle exceptional circumstances.

He pointed out that the reliability of energy flows depends not only on production capacity but also on the ability of the entire supply chain—from production, refining, and storage to transportation, infrastructure, and supply chains—to withstand shocks, continue operations, and adapt.

He emphasized that safeguarding supply chains, enhancing readiness, and ensuring the sustainability of energy flows represent a shared Gulf priority that requires strengthened coordination and optimal utilization of available capacities among GCC member states. This aims to guarantee uninterrupted supplies and boost the ability of GCC countries to meet their commitments to global markets under all circumstances.

He also noted that GCC countries have established a pivotal position in global energy markets due to their resources, production and refining capacities, infrastructure, investments, and accumulated expertise. He added that preserving and building upon this status requires deepening integration among Gulf energy sectors, coordinating positions on regional and international issues, and translating shared visions into more effective and impactful action plans.

Al-Roumi stressed the importance of transitioning from coordinating efforts to integrating capabilities, and from aligning visions to implementing practical, actionable, and monitorable initiatives that safeguard the interests of GCC countries, enhance their energy security, and consolidate their status as a reliable and influential partner in global energy system security.

For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil Sheikh Dr. Namar Al-Sabah affirmed that the decisions and recommendations adopted by the ministers at the 37th meeting of the GCC Petroleum Cooperation Committee reflect a Gulf trend toward enhancing readiness and improving coordination efficiency in responding to the rapid changes in the energy sector, and advancing joint files toward clearer paths in terms of implementation and follow-up.

Sheikh Namar Al-Sabah stated in a Ministry of Oil press release that the significance of the meeting’s outcomes stems from the diversity and interconnectivity of the issues discussed, which combine supply security and emergency preparedness on one hand, and addressing international regulatory and commercial transformations on the other. This reflects the broad scope of challenges requiring continuous GCC coordination at both technical and executive levels.

He added that developing the regional emergency plan for petroleum products represents a crucial pathway to enhancing Gulf readiness by raising the level of coordination among relevant authorities, developing communication mechanisms, information exchange, contact points, and standardized procedures for handling emergencies. This will support the speed and efficiency of response in the event of any disruptions affecting supplies and supply chains.
