Egypt Aims to Strengthen Africa Partnership and Boost Intra-African Trade

Following discussions and consultations on a variety of African dossiers, led by economic files, at the African summits held over three days in the new city of Alamein, Egypt presented several economic visions aimed at strengthening partnerships among the continent’s countries, increasing intra-African trade, and sharing its experiences in diverse developmental fields.

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly stated that Egypt views the challenges related to urbanization from the perspective of an extensive practical experience in urban planning and the geographical redistribution of development. He noted that in recent years, Egypt has adopted a policy of expanding the creation of new urban communities to accommodate population growth, alleviate pressures on existing cities, and achieve a greater balance in the distribution of population and economic activities.

He added, “In its experiences with new urban communities, Egypt has acquired expertise that is not limited to implementation within Egypt alone. This experience undoubtedly confirms that Egypt does not propose a theoretical model, but rather possesses practical expertise that can be utilized, in cooperation with African countries, in designing and implementing infrastructure projects and new cities, according to the needs and specificities of each country.”

A report issued by the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics revealed that the value of trade between Egypt and African Union countries reached $6.1 billion during the first seven months of 2026, compared to $5.5 billion during the same period in 2025, representing an 11.8 percent increase.

The report added that Egypt’s exports to African Union countries reached $4.5 billion, compared to $4.3 billion, an increase of 3.4 percent, while Egypt’s imports from the African Union amounted to approximately $1.6 billion, compared to $1.1 billion, a rise of 45.5 percent.

The Communications and Mobile Phones Sector at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce stated that the prices of phones manufactured in Egypt have risen by 55 percent since the beginning of 2026.

Sector Head Mohamed Talaat said, “Prices are witnessing repeated increases ranging between 5 percent and 7 percent every 10 to 15 days. The reason is the rise in the prices of phone components (RAM and ROM), which are produced by specific companies worldwide that control their prices. This coincides with these companies’ shift toward producing larger components related to artificial intelligence technologies, leading to a shortage in the production of smaller components compared to before.”

Data from the official website of the Central Bank of Egypt revealed the issuance of treasury bills in Egyptian pounds on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, with a total value of 100 billion pounds, distributed across two issuances: the first worth 30 billion pounds with a maturity of 91 days, and the second worth 70 billion pounds with a maturity of 273 days, as part of efforts to meet financing needs and manage liquidity in the market.
