As part of clubs’ preparations to resume local activities, Al-Salmiya will host Al-Qadsiya in a friendly football match at Thamer Stadium at 6:15 p.m. tomorrow Sunday.
Al-Salmiya’s coach, Bahraini Ali Ashour, took advantage of the local football hiatus to prepare the squad for the league campaign. The team played several friendlies, the most recent being against Sporty, a side competing in the First Division, last Tuesday, securing a convincing 8-1 victory.
International players Abdulrahman Al-Fadli and Mehdi Dashti joined the preparations following a short break after returning from Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, where they participated with the Kuwait national team in the 27th Gulf Cup.
Striker Mahmoud Al-Aswad is also expected to join the squad after completing his duties with the Syrian national team, which played two friendlies: the first ended in a 1-1 draw against Jordan, while the second saw a 1-4 loss to Uzbekistan.
Al-Salmiya also played a friendly against English club Salzburg, who are visiting the country, winning 3-2.
Meanwhile, Al-Arabi resumed training in Kuwait after returning from the United Arab Emirates, where they held a training camp at Al Hamriyah Club’s facilities in Sharjah.
New signing Algerian international Badr Eddine Soubaad joined the camp following his recent contract, while former Al-Sahel winger Khalid Al-Ajmi underwent trials ahead of a decision on his registration to the official squad list, as he is currently a free agent.
In a related development, Al-Sahel’s delegation returned on Friday from Cairo, Egypt, where they held a training camp under coach Ali Abdul-Razzaq. The team played three friendlies, drawing 1-1 with Diwatta and 1-1 with Wadi Degla, before suffering a 2-4 defeat against Ceramica Cleopatra.
