Floods sweep Spain: Woman dead, dozens rescued

Spanish authorities announced on Saturday that a 102-year-old woman died and firefighters rescued 90 people following floods in the town of Madrigueras in the southeast of the country.

The floods come on the heels of the hottest summer on record in Spain, where approximately 2,150 people are believed to have died from heat-related causes in August.

Authorities in the Castile-La Mancha region reported that cars were floating in the streets of Madrigueras after heavy rains fell on Friday, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.

Firefighters found the body of the woman who died in her home in Madrigueras, where water levels exceeded one meter.
