Khaled Al-Mughams, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, affirmed the Society’s continued commitment to its humanitarian mission, which began 60 years ago, based on a firm Kuwaiti approach to assisting those affected, supporting needy peoples, and preserving human dignity. He described the Society as one of the national institutions contributing to consolidating Kuwait’s position on the map of international humanitarian action.

Speaking to KUNA on Thursday, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Society’s establishment, Al-Mughams stated that “over the past six decades, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society has been able to transform humanitarian principles into relief and development programs that have reached dozens of countries without discrimination based on religion, gender, or color.”

He added that the Society, founded in 1966, has continued its journey with the support of the political leadership, official authorities, and philanthropists in Kuwait. The activities of the current Board of Directors, which assumed office, extended over the period from October 2024 to the end of September 2026 to 13 countries. This included organizing 27 relief flights, delivering a total of approximately 550 tons of food, medical, and relief supplies, as well as implementing land convoys and development projects in 2025.

He clarified that the most prominent relief efforts included the “Fazaa for Gaza” campaign, which involved preparing 19 flights carrying approximately 400 tons of food supplies, alongside dispatching six relief planes to Syria carrying about 70 tons, and two planes to Sudan carrying around 80 tons. Additionally, two land convoys were sent to Yemen with a total of 60 tons of medical and relief aid, and one plane to Lebanon carrying approximately 40 tons of humanitarian assistance.

He noted that the Society’s Board of Directors has paid special attention to health and development projects, including supporting medical care for injured Palestinians and opening a specialized hospital for ophthalmology and eye surgery in Marib Governorate, Yemen. Furthermore, the Society signed a $2 million agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross to support health services in Sudan, and provided a $300,000 grant to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to improve living conditions for approximately 2,000 Rohingya refugee families in Bangladesh.

On the local level, Al-Mughams said the Society continues to support around 4,000 registered families through social, food, and educational programs. These initiatives included distributing 600 school bags and paying school fees for 295 students, in addition to providing support worth 2 million Kuwaiti Dinars to the Third National Campaign for Settling Debts of Debtors, and 200,000 Kuwaiti Dinars to the Ministry of Justice’s campaign in 2026.
