Google Launches 'Argon': Its Most Powerful Model in Preparation for 'Gemini 4'

After months of anticipation, Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., announced the launch of a leading-edge artificial intelligence model named “Argon,” which will serve as the backbone for the next generation of “Gemini 4” models currently under development.

Through this move, Google aims to continue competing with AI giants Anthropic and OpenAI in the race for AI tools.

A company spokesperson stated that “Argon” surpasses in scale Google’s previously released advanced “Pro” model series, describing it as the highest-performing model the company has developed to date for complex tasks. The spokesperson noted that it matches the leading models “Astra” from OpenAI and “Opus” from Anthropic on core benchmarks for programming and cybersecurity.

Google indicated that the model is currently available to select cybersecurity partners and that the company is participating in the voluntary initiative launched by U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration to make models available before their public release, without specifying a date for customer availability.

The spokesperson revealed that Google no longer plans to launch “Gemini 3.5 Pro,” which CEO Sundar Pichai had previously announced would be released in June 2026.
