Rome (AFP) - Parma has become the third club in Italy’s Serie A to change its manager this season, with the 15th-placed side appointing former international Alberto Gilardino to replace Carlos Coista, who was sacked at the start of the week.
The club, owned by American businessman Kyle Krause, said in a statement: “Alberto Gilardino is the new manager of Parma after signing a contract until the end of the current season, with an option to extend for two additional years.”
Gilardino had been without a club since his dismissal from Pisa in January 2026, after recording just one win, 11 draws, and 11 defeats in Serie A.
The 2006 World Cup winner, who earned 57 caps for Italy and scored 17 goals, previously played for Parma for three seasons between 2002 and 2005.
Gilardino, 44, replaces Carlos Coista, the former assistant to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who was dismissed after two months and two weeks in charge.
Coista is now the third Serie A manager to be sacked since mid-August, following Fabio Grosso (Fiorentina) and Domenico Tedesco (Bologna).
