The struggle of evil against evil

They told us that social media would turn the world into a small village, but they didn’t tell us it would become a noisy village—one that never sleeps and never turns down the volume!

We opened our phones to ask about friends, only to find ourselves permanent members of the Security Council: disputes between nations, conflicts between militias, coups in distant countries, and teenagers handed guns and drones after their minds have been brainwashed.

We now know the names of militia leaders better than those of our neighbors, and we watch audio battles and insults between compatriots united only by hatred. Platforms became saturated with sectarianism, reviving century-old conflicts, but this time fought via mobile phones. Betrayal became “a point of view,” selling out the country became “political analysis,” and every issue, no matter how abhorrent, became subject to lengthy debates between two sides, neither of which is clearly worse.

When we tire of politics, art offers a respite! A female artist gets divorced, a male artist secretly marries, another deletes photos of her husband, and a fourth resumes following him after midnight. Analysts begin their investigations: Why was the photo deleted? Why was the song reposted? Is the black heart emoji in her latest post a message to her ex-husband?

Because algorithms do not favor the rational, some discovered that the shortest path to fame is the noisiest: insult, provoke, manufacture a scandal, or post indecent content, and you will find millions of followers. Mercenaries then proliferated, turning platforms into cash machines that reward your tongue with engagement metrics. Some believe it, or perhaps reshare it, amplifying chaos and disorder.

Meanwhile, writers, thinkers, and scholars write ideas worth reading, yet receive only five likes—three from relatives and two by mistake!

Thus, “social media germs” have spread to every corner. The environment has become repulsive to the useful and attractive to the noisy and harmful. Therefore, I am not surprised that people are beginning to flee. Humanity has grown weary of waking up to war, having breakfast with a scandal, drinking coffee amid an actress’s divorce, and falling asleep to sectarian strife.

Humans can understand the struggle between good and evil; but our tragedy today is that we spend hours watching the struggle between evil and evil… Regardless of the outcome, the victor will ultimately be evil as well…

Football in Kuwait requires urgent surgery, not painkillers! (Football has, in some cases, become private property.) It runs on nepotism and becomes a race to buy promising players only to bench them. We buy players, park them, and guarantee domestic victories through connected individuals, only to go out and represent Kuwait, discovering that the result is zero points!
