- Nasser Al-Saqer to “Al-Rai”: My brother lost consciousness after a half-hour confrontation with dogs

- He still suffers from the aftermath of the incident... Every time he closes his eyes, he relives the scenes of the attack

In the early hours of the morning, while performing his duties at the headquarters of the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries, Mustafa Hamad Al-Saqer, an employee in the Operations Department and a karate player at Burqan Club, found himself facing eight dogs that attacked and bit him in various parts of his body. The incident left physical and psychological scars that he is still battling to this day.

Mustafa, 32, was carrying out his work duties when his day turned into a tragedy following the attack, which occurred around 3 a.m. last Saturday and lasted for a prolonged period, despite his attempts to protect himself from the dogs.

“Al-Rai” visited the victim to check on his condition and met with his brother, Nasser Al-Saqer, who recounted the details of what Mustafa endured. Nasser said, “My brother was preparing for a karate match at his club, Burqan. While at his workplace, he went out to exercise during his break, when he was suddenly confronted by eight rabid dogs trying to bite him for nearly half an hour. He tried to shield himself with his body and hands, and kept fighting them off until he felt he was about to lose consciousness. Suddenly, he heard the horn of a car belonging to an employee who tried to help by driving the dogs away. Ambulance services were notified, and he was transferred to Al-Farwaniya Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.”

Nasser added that “Mustafa suffers from multiple injuries across various parts of his body, from head to toe, including a deep wound on his right leg and a severe injury to his left hand. However, the final diagnosis has not yet been confirmed, pending the completion of further tests and MRI scans.”

For his part, Muttr Al-Bagheeli, a board member of the Kuwaiti Union for Livestock Breeders, called during his visit to check on the victim for the elimination of stray dogs through all possible means to protect society. He noted that these dogs have spread to a degree that threatens both adults and children, with their harmful presence expanding into residential and industrial areas, and even reaching hospital courtyards and recreational spaces.

Mustafa’s case has drawn attention and follow-up from Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who checked on his health condition and monitored the developments of his situation. Meanwhile, his family awaits an improvement in his condition, stabilization of his kidney functions, and the possibility of undergoing the remaining necessary tests and treatments.

Nasser Al-Saqer, the victim’s brother, said, “What is painful in Mustafa’s story is that the attack occurred on the same day he was preparing to participate in a karate championship. He had contacted his family a day before the incident, asking them to attend and support him in the tournament, as he is a karate player at Burqan Club and is accustomed to practicing sports. However, the sudden attack placed him in a completely different battle, which he is now fighting from his hospital bed, hoping to overcome his injuries and return to his normal life.”
