The Royal Automobile Club (RAC) announced on Monday that diesel prices hit an unprecedented record high of 199.18 pence per liter (approximately $2.64), amid the ongoing war in the Middle East that has driven fuel costs higher.

In a statement, the club noted that gasoline prices rose to 174.13 pence per liter ($2.32), adding that diesel prices had entered an “unprecedented phase” due to the continuing conflict involving Iran, which has led to higher prices for oil-derived fuels.

It pointed out that current prices mean filling the tank of a mid-size family car with diesel now costs £110 ($146), an increase of £31 ($41) compared to levels at the outbreak of the war last February. The previous peak for diesel prices was recorded in June 2022 at 199.09 pence per liter.

The Royal Automobile Club (RAC), founded in 1897, is one of the oldest organizations in the United Kingdom specializing in automotive services and roadside assistance.
