Greek coach Giorgos Donis expressed satisfaction at securing a spot in the semifinals of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup (Khaleej Al-Arabiya 27) after Saudi Arabia’s 3-0 victory over Oman on Saturday in the second round of Group A matches. However, he expressed sadness over the injury to his player Ala Al-Hajji.
Al-Akhdar, whose goals were scored by Feras Al-Brikan (11th and 34th minutes) and Hassan Kadesh (18th minute), moved to six points after their first win against Kuwait, 1-0. Meanwhile, Oman remained on one point, having opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Iraq.
Donis said after the match: “I believe we delivered an excellent performance and maintained great organization in the first half. When we lost possession, we all pressed as a unit, and we waited for the right moments to score.”
He added: “On the other hand, I am not happy with our performance in the second half, as we suffered some injuries. Ala Al-Hajji, who was outstanding in the match, left the field; I learned he has a knee injury that will keep him out for about three weeks. Meanwhile, Mohammed Al-Qahtani will participate in group training sessions.”
