US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he expects further talks with Iran to take place this week, following his rejection of Tehran’s proposal to end the war, while simultaneously confirming that he is continuously considering the possibility of resuming strikes against it.
In a phone interview with Axios, Trump added that Tehran seeks an agreement that differs from what Washington is pursuing, stating, “They want to reach an agreement, but it is not the agreement I want to reach. It is the agreement we might have accepted a year ago. They have overestimated their position.”
When asked whether he was considering resuming strikes, he replied, “I am always thinking about it.” Regarding navigation, Trump said the US military is facilitating the passage of large volumes of oil through the strait, adding that more than 20 million barrels had transited over the weekend, marking the largest volume since the start of the war, he said.
