Foreign Ministers of the 'Mecca Agreement' Countries Review Arrangements for an Emergency Meeting of Chiefs of Staff

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a meeting yesterday, Thursday, at the Saudi delegation’s permanent mission to the United Nations in New York, with Pakistani Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in the framework of the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense.

During the meeting, the ministers expressed their strongest condemnation of the heinous attacks that targeted the holy city of Mecca and civilian and economic facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They praised the vigilance and defensive capabilities of the Saudi armed forces in safeguarding the Kingdom’s security, and affirmed the Kingdom’s right to take measures it deems appropriate to defend its security in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The meeting also addressed ongoing arrangements to convene an urgent meeting of the chiefs of staff of the three countries, aimed at discussing ways to support the Kingdom under the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense, which stipulates that any attack on one party constitutes an attack on all parties.

The ministers also discussed the current situation in the region, emphasizing the importance of consolidating the principles of international law, good neighborliness, mutual respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and ensuring the security and freedom of maritime navigation.

They reaffirmed their resolve to continue working toward achieving lasting peace and stability in the region, supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions, and advancing toward peaceful resolutions of existing crises.
