Al-Ahli Bank warns against exploiting artificial intelligence in fraud schemes

Ali Bouhamad, Head of the Complaints and Customer Protection Unit at National Bank of Kuwait (NBK), appeared as a guest on the “Diwaniya Al-Yaqout and Al-Ansari” program on 360 FM to discuss the “Let’s Be Aware” campaign, as part of the bank’s ongoing support for the initiative and its continuous contribution to achieving financial inclusion and raising awareness levels across all segments of society.

The interview highlighted the campaign’s role in protecting customers within the banking sector and informing them of their rights and obligations when dealing with banks. It also pointed to key updates in the revised Customer Protection Guide, including notifying customers three months before the renewal of products with automatic annual renewal, disclosing any applicable fees, and clarifying the cancellation process.

The discussion noted that NBK has reduced the response time for customer complaints to just five working days. The bank has also equipped all its branches with ramps to facilitate mobility and service for people with special needs. The interview further shed light on several other aspects of the updated guide, which is fully aligned with the “Let’s Be Aware” campaign.

Customers were advised to be vigilant against fraud and the evolving tactics of scammers and hackers. They were urged not to click on untrusted links and to carefully read messages containing an “OTP” code, avoiding automatic entry. This step was emphasized as essential for protecting personal data and bank accounts.

The interview also addressed the latest fraud trends involving the use of artificial intelligence, stressing that hackers may exploit modern technologies to achieve their goals and steal customer data.

Bouhamad affirmed that NBK is among the key supporters of the campaign, a commitment reflected in its promotion across branches, ATM screens, the bank’s website, mobile app, and social media pages. Through the publication of videos, infographics, and diverse images, the bank engages with all customer segments in the local market. He added that NBK will continue implementing initiatives to ensure the campaign reaches various segments and successfully achieves its objectives.
