Xi Jinping: China and the United States should be "partners, not rivals"

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged Washington to cooperate, according to official Chinese media, hours after his American counterpart, Donald Trump, warmly received him in Washington on Wednesday evening.

In a written statement released by the official Xinhua News Agency, Xi stated that China and the United States “should be partners, not rivals,” adding that “the Chinese and American peoples have long enjoyed friendly exchanges, and our interests are deeply intertwined.”

He expressed his anticipation of discussing “major issues,” including “the global situation,” during his meeting with Trump.
