10 clubs kick off the Handball World Championship tomorrow

The World Club Handball Championship will kick off tomorrow, Thursday, in Egypt’s capital, Cairo, featuring an elite lineup of clubs from around the world. Leading the field are Egyptian champions Al Ahly, the tournament hosts, and Spanish side Barcelona, the defending champions, alongside Kuwait’s Al Burqan, the Asian champions. Al Burqan’s participation marks a historic moment as the Kuwaiti representative aims to make a notable impact on the global stage.

Tomorrow’s preliminary round will see Egyptian club Al Zamalek face American side Los Angeles, with the winner advancing to the group stage. In the other preliminary match, Hungarian club Veszprém will take on Australia’s University of Sydney, with the victor also progressing to the group stage.

According to the tournament format, teams eliminated in the preliminary round will continue their campaign by competing in a match to determine ninth and tenth place, while the group stage teams will contest for positions one through eight.

Al Burqan prepared for the handball club World Cup through a training camp in Bosnia, during which they played several friendly matches. Additionally, Al Burqan’s Japanese star, Yasuhiro, sustained an injury during the final training session before traveling to Cairo and may not participate in the international competition.
