Kuwait to Co-host Ministerial Dinner for Elected Members of the Security Council
Foreign Minister Sheikh Jaraah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah jointly hosted the third annual ministerial dinner of elected members of the Security Council on Monday evening, alongside Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Shamala Thompson, Executive Director of Security Council Report. The event was attended by the ten current members of the Council and the five elected members set to join, held on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the dinner focused on the strategic role of elected Security Council members, ways to enhance coordination and cooperation among them, and ensuring continuity and the transfer of institutional expertise between current and incoming members, thereby strengthening their collective contribution to enhancing the Council’s effectiveness and capacity to address challenges related to international peace and security.
In a related development, the Foreign Minister received Nicolas Michel, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Personal Representative of the Secretary-General for Gaza, at the Kuwait Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.
According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the meeting discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, the efforts of the Peace Council aimed at achieving security and stability, and regional and international initiatives to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
The Foreign Minister also met with Ignazio Cassis, Vice President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, to review bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance and develop them across various fields, as well as to discuss the latest developments on the regional and international scenes.
