Valverde's injury rules him out of Uruguay's matches

Madrid – AFP – Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde, from Uruguay, is suffering from a left ankle sprain, the club announced, following a heavy challenge by South Korean Atletico Madrid player Kang-in Lee during Sunday’s “Capital Derby,” which ended in a 2-1 victory for “Atletico” in the seventh round of the Spanish football league.

According to Spanish media, the Uruguayan midfielder is expected to be sidelined for several weeks, meaning he will miss his national team’s upcoming gathering as they prepare for three friendly matches in Japan, South Korea, and India.

The capital club had described its captain’s injury, following the defeat to “Atletico,” as a “severe impact” to the ankle, highlighting the severity of the South Korean player’s challenge. Real Madrid manager, Portuguese Jose Mourinho, stated that the incident warranted a red card.
